Chatayee Thai Restaurant, Philadelphia
Chef Chatayee Venus Kaputhong’s culinary journey began in the vibrant garden district of Talingchan in Bangkok, where she was immersed in the rich traditions of Thai cuisine from a young age. Inspired by her family’s culinary legacy, she combined old-school Thai cooking techniques with a modern flair, creating dishes that honored her heritage while also pushing boundaries.
Her academic pursuits at Culalongkorn University in Bangkok, supported by the Music and Culture Program Scholarship, fueled her passion for both music and culinary arts. This dual passion provided her with a unique perspective as she explored diverse cuisines throughout Southeast Asia and beyond, enriching her culinary repertoire.
Upon relocating to the United States and studying at Columbia College, Chef Chatayee collaborated with successful Thai restaurants in the 90s, honing her skills and expanding her culinary horizons. Her time in Rochester, NY not only for her internship at Eastman School of Music as a sound engineer but also including a notable stint at Esan Thai Restaurant, further deepened her expertise in hospitality and restaurant management at the same time.
A multi-talented individual, Chef Chatayee also pursued a career as a professional DJ, leveraging her love for music to enhance her understanding of global flavors and culinary traditions. This diverse background led her to engage in various culinary projects such as private chef services and recipe development for restaurants in Philadelphia and beyond, showcasing her versatility and creativity in the culinary world.
In 2014, Chef Chatayee took on the role of General Manager at Cibo Ristorante in Philadelphia, reigniting her passion for the industry and solidifying her commitment to culinary excellence. Building on this experience, she reached a new milestone in 2018 by assuming the position of Executive Chef at Chatayee Thai in Philadelphia. In this role, she channeled her creative vision and deep-rooted appreciation for authentic flavors to craft exquisite Thai dishes that captivated diners and critics alike.
